RCD Espanyol to Open Football Academy in Shanghai

 

On February 24th the La Liga's club RCD Espanyol announced an agreement to open a youth football academy in Shanghai, China. The opening of this new academy in Shanghai steps forward in the commercial expansion in the Asian market of the  club.

 

The RCDE Academy hopes to promote their working methodology in football to the whole world. They now have three academies in China: Shanghai, Hunan and Yunnan. The global network of these academies has so far extended to Ajman (United Arab Emirates), Alger and Blida (Algeria), Saitama (Japan), New Jersey (United States), Barcelona (Spain), Baghdad (Iraq) and Stockholm (Sweden).

ANTA Receives Necessary Approval of Mergering Amer Sports

 

February 25th China's ANTA Sports announced that it has obtained all the official approvals for the 4.6 billion Euro acquisition of Amer Sports, the owner of Salomon, Arc’Teryx, Suunto, Wilson, Louisville Slugger, Precor and a few other niche sports brands. 

 

To complete the merger process, the acquisition plan needs to be approved by the original shareholders with a total shareholding ratio of more than 90%. In 2018, ANTA's revenue was 3.6 billion USD, up 44.4% from 2017. Gross profit reached 1.90 billion USD, with a gross profit margin of 52.4%.

Chinese Football Player Transfer Value Reaches New High

 

Wu Lei, the latest signing of RCD Espanyol, transfer value to rise from 3.5 million Euro to 5 million Euro and continues to maintain the first position among all Chinese football players. This transfer value also breaks the record of the former Chinese national team player Sun Jihai during his Manchester City period, which is 4.5 million euro. 

 

After Wu Lei joined RCDE on January 28th, the Spanish club's instagram immediately gained more than 5,000 new followers. 1,600 jerseys were sold in the Tmall flagship store of the club’s official jersey supplier Kelme within 48 hours after the transfer.

NIKE Sponsors China's Esports League LPL

 

Nike makes its movement into esports with a sponsor deal in China. The sports brand giant confirmed a four-year sponsorship with the League of Legends Pro League (LPL) in China. Nike now becomes LPL's official clothing and footwear supplier from the LPL season 2018 to 2022. The cooperation includes LPL clothing, sneaker design, LPL joint sports products and other derivative services.

 

In 2018, China's e-sports users have exceeded 300 million. The number of live streams in the LPL reached 15 billion. The total time of the game watching is over 2.5 billion hours, a 50% increase from 2017.

Allbirds Joins the China Market

 

The American footwear brand Allbirds announced its official entry into the Chinese market and will open its first Chinese store in Shanghai in April 2019, the first time they opened an offline store in Asia after San Francisco, New York and London. The Tmall flagship store and the official Chinese website of the brand will also be online in the future.

 

Known for its woolen sneakers, Allbirds is an eco-friendly casual shoes brand. In 2018, Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio announced his investment in Allbirds. According to the brand founder Tim Brown, bringing Allbirds to China has been a goal of the brand since its launching back in 2016.

China's home appliance company TCL announced their official partnership with the 2019 Copa América in Brazil. According to the agreement between both sides, TCL will increase brand exposure via pitch-side adverts, referees’ uniforms, and VAR equipment, as well as extensive promotional activities across online, social, mobile and offline channels.

 

TCL had sponsored Neymar and the FIBA Basketball World Cup before. In 2018, the sales volume of TCL TVs reached 28.61 million, an increase of 23.1% year-on-year.

Chengdu Holds Universiade 2021

 

On 1st March, Executive Committee of International University Sports Federation holds meeting at Krasnoyarsk, Russia. At the meeting, the mayor of Chengdu Luo Qiang signed the host city contract for the 31st Summer Universiade in 2021 with the FISU and the Federation of University Sports of China.
